Who are we?
Both Abby and I developed hearts for overseas mission work mostly in our teenage years. I had a specific heart for Japan already, and Abby had a heart for Asia. This led both of us to go on short-term mission trips in high school, which grew our hearts for the nations.
We both did a Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission in 2023 and formed a great friendship. YWAM was super beneficial for both of us, and we grew so much. We went on a 2.5-month outreach to Nepal. By this time, we knew we liked one another, and after YWAM dated long distance for four months and quickly got married.
We are currently living in Colorado Springs on the YWAM base serving locally and support raising before we move to Japan. We have completed a course called School of Strategic Mission to gain wisdom on how to be long-term missionaries.
We learned about Discovery Bible Studies (DBS), which is a simple style of studying the Bible that leaves room to encounter Jesus directly from scripture. We want to plant these groups, which will meet in homes and instead of growing into a building, we will be intentional to train and raise up leaders in order to multiply so we can have a broader reach. Another motivation for House Church / DBS planting is to stay away from stigmas regarding the institutional church in Japan as churches are often viewed as cults. Next Steps
JOIN YWAM STAFF
We applied to become Youth With A Mission or YWAM staff because we believe in YWAM's mission and its work. YWAM is our sending organization, and our support goes through them. When we leave for Japan, we become Field Staff. A couple of other perks are cheap on-base housing, discounted courses, and on-field support from our home base in Colorado Springs. Though there is a two-year commitment, they don't prevent us from going to Japan and becoming field staff.
SOSM
SOSM is a 12-week course that brings in full-time missionaries to teach on strategic, effective mission work. They'll cover topics such as teaching the bible cross-culturally, making disciples cross-culturally, understanding different world-views, working in a multicultural team, and language learning. They also have us prepare and complete a 12-week outreach/practicum to graduate from this school that must be completed within a two year window.
LAUNCH CIRCLE
The Launch Circle is the department that accepted us onto staff because of the gifts and skills they noticed in us. They said we could help them this season, and they can train us for missions. The launch Circle is the group of people who send, sustain, and refresh the active YWAM missionaries. They host missionaries during breaks, do two missionary retreats in East Asian countries a year, and help train the new YWAMers to teach the Bible cross-culturally. In summary, they focus on the active mission work! We will work with this group until we move to Japan to learn from missionaries daily!
Baby is Born
In mid-May, our baby boy (William) will be born and Abby will be focused on taking care of him and herself for three months. But we are still moving forward on a slightly altered time-line. Baby might bring unexpected complication which may add more time, but our hopeful departure month is still January of 2027.
Japan!
On January 1st 2027 we are taking off with baby William to Osaka Japan specifically in the city of Izumi to work with a Church called Jesus Cafe House! We are staying at a guest house on the Church property. Are plan is to serve in Jesus Cafe House in the children's programs and teaching english at their public board game nights. And only ten minutes away is YWAM Izumi which we plan to serve in any capacity we can. This trip is primarily to get experience in Japan and to see if Izumi is where we want to live in the future! We are currently support raising for this upcoming trip so please ask God if he is calling you to support my family in the work the Lord has called us to!
